AIM Hub seeks postdoctoral scholar in advanced manufacturing systems

The Advanced Innovation for Manufacturing (AIM) Hub at the University of California, Riverside is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to advance research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, data analytics, and advanced manufacturing systems.

The position, based in UCR’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, offers an opportunity to contribute to research developing more intelligent, adaptable and data-driven manufacturing systems.

Advancing the future of manufacturing

The Postdoctoral Scholar in Advanced Manufacturing Systems will conduct research across several emerging areas of manufacturing, including artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted manufacturing system design and reconfiguration, digital twins for manufacturing operations and optimization, and human-AI collaboration for smart manufacturing decision-making.

Research may also involve multimodal machine learning using sensor, image, video, and machine-log data, as well as technologies for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and process control.

The successful candidate will join the newly established AIM Hub, where researchers are advancing technologies and approaches that can strengthen modern manufacturing through artificial intelligence, automation, data and related innovations.

The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The anticipated start date is Oct. 1, 2026.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, computer science, robotics or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications include a strong background in AI and machine learning, data analytics, optimization or digital twins. Experience with manufacturing systems, automation, robotics or industrial data is also preferred, along with demonstrated research excellence through publications and collaborative projects.

How to apply

Applicants should submit application materials through UCR’s AP Recruit system.

Required materials include:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Brief statement of research interests
  • Contact information for professional references

Optional materials may include a cover letter, letter of recommendation and sample publications. Reference letters may be requested following the initial screening.
